What is a Blog?
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia defines Blog as a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.” As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Blogs are not only being used by individual but businesses are also using Blogs to promote and discuss their products.

Why Blog?
Personal blogging can be use share an interest or passion in a topic or field. Business blogging can be use to raise the profile and positive “buzz” about a company and as a communication tool for employee and customers.

How to get Started
One of the first choices you need to make to begin to blog is the type of blogging platform. WordPress is one of the oldest and most popular blogging platforms around. It can be downloaded for free and used with free or custom designed templates. Blogger is another popular product that has been around for awhile and was recently purchased by Google. Like most Google products, Blogger is well designed, easy to use and free.

And the Winner is...
From my experience the choice is clear in the WordPress versus Blogger battle. For new bloggers, Blogger is the hands down winner for ease of use and professional appearance of output. I am now using Blogger but in my first attempt at blogging I used WordPress. You can sign up for a free Blogger account at www.Blogger.com and within a couple of hours you can be blogging with the world!
